Wilson & Scott are proud to be responsible for painting the iconic blue line that guides runners along the London Marathon course each year. This highly visible, temporary line is far more than just a marking on the road, it plays a crucial role in the race itself. Carefully measured and precisely applied, it indicates the most efficient route along the entire course, helping elite athletes minimise unnecessary distance and maintain optimal pacing. For runners chasing personal bests, world records, or simply peak performance, following this line can make a meaningful difference.

Our involvement with this tradition dates all the way back to 1985, when we were first entrusted with the task. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of returning year after year to deliver this essential feature, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and reliability every time. Being part of such a globally recognised event is something we take immense pride in. It’s not just about painting a line, it’s about contributing to the success of one of the world’s most celebrated marathons and supporting athletes as they push the limits of human achievement.

Our crews work extremely hard over the weekend getting the line painted and ready for the Sunday. After that they then remove the line and return the roads back to normality. This can be challenging for the liners, having to work around the hustle and bustle of London. However our teams successfully complete the project year after year with no complications.

Well done to all the runners who attended the London Marathon, we are all very inspired and hope our blue line helped again for yet another year.
